Shadow War: A Hero Based 5v5 Shooter Review

Shadow War has been developed by Patriots Division, a game development company focusing on creating next-generation digital experiences. The game is a hero-based 5v5 shooter featuring several classes, and in the current build, teams battle over two objectives to achieve victory.

In the lore of Shadow War, the world is under the control of Morgana, a superintelligent AI, and humanity is on the brink of losing control. Shadow operatives are humanity’s last hope against this overwhelming power, and players are thrust into a battle that goes beyond mere victory—it’s about the future of humanity. The game is currently in its alpha stage on Steam, with monthly playtests, and the hardware specs for the game are moderate.

Gameplay

The current build of Shadow War features one map with two simple objectives to capture. The team that holds their objectives until their points fill up will emerge victorious. There are five classes in the game: Vanguard, Specialist, Tactical, Assault, and Predator.

The Vanguard is a tank-based robot with melee abilities, including the ability to propel himself forward while stunning the opponent and launching blades at enemies. Specialists provide supporting fire and range pressure with unique weapons and skills, including a melee ability for area attacks.

Tactical operatives improve their team’s toolkit with enhanced effects or utility and have abilities like turning invisible and ziplining in any direction. Assault operatives are pure melee characters with high damage output up close and good mobility. Predators have high mobility with abilities like lunging forward, turning invisible, and gaining invulnerability.

Review

In terms of graphics, Shadow War has a solid base with well-designed environments and character designs. The VFX of character attacks are impressive, but the game still requires polishing before release. The audio design, including the main menu and pre-game UX, adds to the game’s theme. However, more intricate details in character movement SFX could enhance the gaming experience.

Shadow War offers an action-filled and fast-paced 5v5 hero shooter experience. The current game mode of capturing objectives allows players to engage in the core gameplay loop. With further development, the game has the potential to become a hit among gamers.

Overall, I would rate Shadow War a 5.5/10 in its current stage. While it provides a satisfying early alpha stage experience, the success of the game will depend on future improvements and implementations to enhance the gameplay loop. Shadow War shows promise but still has room to grow and evolve in the competitive gaming market.
